On Sunday 25th August 2019 we teamed up again with Waitemata Branch for our third Daffodil Day Rally to raise funds for the Cancer Society, as did many other branches around the country. The rally was open to all car enthusiasts, whether Club members or not, and to all makes and ages of vehicles. Starting at Smale’s Farm in Takapuna where cars are displayed at the Caffeine & Classics gatherings, 117 vehicles including motorbikes and scooters registered to tour around the Bays and then travel west to SH16 before heading north for a while and then east to Warkworth. The local branch of The Lions controlled the traffic and managed to squeeze all the cars onto The Wharf parking area along with the other vehicles on display, totalling some 200. Despite the changeable weather car enthusiasts turned out in droves to see the collection of cars which spanned a century. Since the rally was not competitive the ‘winner’ was The People’s Choice, which was a pristine 1932 Packard Roadster, and generous prizes were donated by local businesses which supported the event. From the rally entrance fees and public donations we raised almost $3000 for the Cancer Society, which was a handy increase on last year’s amount. We hope to repeat and grow the event to support this worthy cause.
