On Sunday 14th June 2020 we held a ‘Break Free From Covid-19’ run to celebrate the end of what became the first of two lockdowns for the Greater Auckland region. Club members in a dozen or so cars met at The Wharf in Warkworth and we took Woodcocks Rd and then West Coast Rd west to the intersection with SH16, then south to Helensville and north to Shelly Beach on the southern arm of the Kaipara Harbour. It was glorious driving through the fresh green forests with flashes of winter sun through the trees. It was breezy at Shelly Beach and the hardy souls had picnics while others crammed into the warm tearoom for hot drinks and snacks before we headed home with new appreciation of the freedom we take for granted.
